Houses

A HOUSE FOR AN ARTIST BY CILIBERTO • Beyond its modest, shed-like exterior, this secondary dwelling is both an expedient and elegant solution to small-scale living, providing its artist owner with a canvas to animate with light, life and art.

PRESTON HOUSE II BY OLAVER • Relaxed and inviting, this family home combines a respectfully reworked interwar house with a skilfully planned extension that’s full of comforts for adults at work – and children at play.

PINJARRA HILLS HOUSE BY SULLIVAN SKINNER • Careful and concise, this addition resolves the problems of an unremarkable 1970s brick home in Brisbane, thoughtfully replanning it to support relaxed family living attuned to its subtropical locale.

HERMON BY WOWOWA ARCHITECTURE • Delicious colours and carved layers are the garnish to this practical reinvention of an Edwardian villa and its 1990s addition, which lets the family have their cake – and eat it, too.

STOKE FIREPLACE STUDIO A warm welcome • From classic to contemporary, from wood to gas, find your fire at Stoke Fireplace Studio.

2022 WINNERS • Announcing the winning, commended and shortlisted projects in the 2022 Houses Awards, and celebrating the meaningful contribution Australia’s architects and designers make to enriching the way we live.
